Satterwhite Invited To Participate In USA Baseball National Team Trials

June 26, 2006

OXFORD, Miss. - Cody Satterwhite became the second Ole Miss player this season to receive an invitation to participate in the USA Baseball National Team trials, as the freshman right-hander is competing for a spot on the final roster of the USA Baseball team that will travel to Cuba in August to compete against some of the world's top young talent.

Satterwhite joins sophomore shortstop Zack Cozart in competing for a spot on the final 22-man roster.

"We are excited for Cody (Satterwhite) to have this opportunity to compete for a spot on the National Team," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. "It's an honor and an opportunity he deserves. It says a lot about this program and these players to have two young men selected to compete for a chance to represent the United States."

Satterwhite finished his freshman season at Ole Miss with an 11-2 record, tying the single-season record for wins and setting a new mark in wins for a season by a freshman. The previous mark had been seven wins set in 2001. The pitcher also posted two saves and was a key component in helping the Rebels to the 2006 SEC Tournament Championship and hosting Ole Miss' second consecutive Super Regional.

Ole Miss also claimed its second straight NCAA Regional Championship as the Rebels hosted an NCAA Regional for the third straight season in 2006.

With the invitation of Satterwhite to the trials, Ole Miss is one of only four schools in the nation to have more than one player invited to compete for a position on the final roster. The competition will continue through July 2, when the final 22-man team will be announced.
