Former Rebel Pitcher Gets Call Up From St. Louis

St. Louis, Mo. - Former Ole Miss right-hander Matt Duff was called up by the St. Louis Cardinals from their Double A affiliate in New Haven, Conn., and made his Major League debut for the Cardinals on Tuesday at Florida.

Duff pitched a scoreless ninth inning and struck out two to cap the National League Central Division leaders' 5-0 win over the Marlins.

Prior to be called up, Duff was 10-1 with four saves and a 1.06 ERA in 43 appearances for the New Haven Ravens. He had also struck out 84 while walking 17 in 59 2/3 innings.

Duff, a native of Alligator, Miss., pitched for the Rebels for two seasons from 1996-1997 after spending two years at Mississippi Delta Community College. He compiled a 7-8 mark with a 4.24 ERA at Ole Miss, and struck out 95 in 130 1/3 innings.
